I lost access to my wallet or device. How do I recover my wallet?

The BitPay Wallet is a self-custody wallet. Securing your seed or 12-word recovery phrase is essential when using a self-custody wallet. Recovering your wallet and cryptocurrency is only possible using your 12-word recovery phrase. BitPay does not store your recovery phrase or have access to your funds.

Recovering your wallet using a recovery phrase and the BitPay app:

1. Open the BitPay app
2. Select Create, import or join a shared wallet (or the equivalent option)
3. Choose Import Key
4. Enter the 12-word recovery phrase and select Import Wallet

Why am I receiving an error when importing my wallet to the BitPay app?

Recovering your wallet using plain text backup and the BitPay app:

1. Open the BitPay app
2. Select Create, import or join a shared wallet (or the equivalent option)
3. Choose Import Key
4. Select Plain Text
5. Paste the JSON format as plain text and enter your password
6. Select Import Wallet

Note: All JSON format backups require a password.
