A blockchain explorer, such as BitPay's Insight, can be used to check the status of your transaction by looking up the transaction ID, sending address, or receiving address. You can also select View on Blockchain after selecting the transaction in the BitPay app.
When sending or receiving cryptocurrency, there can be many reasons why the transaction is unconfirmed.
Network traffic
High transaction volumes can cause delays. Sending or receiving Bitcoin when the value dramatically increases or decreases can contribute to higher transactions waiting for confirmation in the mempool.
Low transaction fees
Including too low of a miner fee can cause transactions to get stuck in the mempool, especially during high network traffic. Miners prioritize transactions with higher fees. If the transaction does not receive confirmation, it may be dropped from mempool and returned to your wallet.
Unconfirmed Inputs
If your transaction includes unconfirmed inputs, you'll need to wait for the inputs to be confirmed before your transaction can be sent.
What can I do about an unconfirmed transaction?
If receiving an external transaction in the BitPay Wallet, we suggest contacting the transaction originated and providing transaction details for assistance. Once the incoming transaction receives confirmation, it will automatically updated in your wallet.
Bitcoin RBF (Replace-By-Fee)
If you've sent a Bitcoin transaction from the BitPay Wallet and your transaction is unconfirmed, you can speed it up using the RBF feature. This requires additional confirmed Bitcoin to be available in your wallet. To find this feature, select the unconfirmed transaction in your wallet.
Network Fee Policies
Increasing the speed of transactions can be helpful if you need faster confirmation. This adjustment needs to be made in the BitPay Wallet settings before the transaction is sent. The higher the speed, the more expensive the fees will be when sending the transaction, but also incentivizes miners to prioritize your transaction.
My transaction is confirmed but not showing up in my wallet.
Here are a couple reasons you may not see your transaction:
- The transaction was not sent to your wallet address.
- The transaction was sent over a network/chain the BitPay Wallet does not support. (Binance BNB, TRON, Avalanche, etc.) The BitPay Wallet only supports tokens on Ethereum, Polygon, Arbitrum, Base, and Optimism. If you sent unsupported tokens to your BitPay Wallet, please reach out to BitPay Support.
I paid a BitPay Invoice but the funds were not applied.
If your payment was towards a BitPay Invoice, the merchant will be notified when your transaction receives confirmation. When will my payment confirm?
If your transaction resulted in a payment error, you should receive an email with instructions how to collect your refund.
