BitPay is required by applicable laws and regulations to collect information about shoppers for transactions and refunds over a certain size and, in some regions, for any transaction.
Although BitPay ID is not required for every BitPay Invoice payment, when it is you'll need to complete verification and be approved before proceeding.
Refunds
Any shoppers receiving a refund must sign up for a BitPay account and submit information to be verified for a BitPay ID for security and fraud prevention reasons.
BitPay ID Verification Required
- Payments ≥ 3000 USD
- All Refunds
- Shoppers residing in Europe, payments ≥ 1000 EURO
- Using Virtual Private Network (VPN)
If you're using a VPN, BitPay will require verification for any transaction amount to be compliant with laws and regulations. If you have an approved BitPay ID and are signed in, using a VPN shouldn't interrupt your payment.
If you're experiencing an error or your BitPay ID verification has been pending longer than 24 or 48 hours, please contact BitPay Support using the BitBot (bottom right) or email us directly at support@bitpay.com.
