Why is Additional Verification Required?
For customers based within the US, payments ≥ 3000 USD, payments to merchants in the EU, or refunds ≥ 1000 USD require users to provide additional verification (verification requirements may differ by region and/or amount) by obtaining a BitPay ID.
Customers based within the EU are required to successfully complete a one-time user identification on transactions valued ≥ 1,000 euros. Read more about our updated KYC threshold for customers in the European Union.
How do I get verified?
To start the BitPay ID application process, follow the prompts on your invoice or navigate to this page.
Select a Personal Account and click Continue to proceed.
On the next prompt, choose Personal Use, enter your name and email address, create a password, agree to the BitPay Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, and click on Submit to proceed.
Check the verification email that was sent to the submitted email address. Click on the Email Didn’t Arrive button if you do not receive the verification email.
From the verification email, click on Complete Verification which will open a new browser tab and redirect you to the BitPay Dashboard.
To unlock higher limits for purchases, click on the three lines in the upper-right-hand corner of the page, and choose Settings.
On the Settings Page, click Get Verified.
Click on Continue and complete the BitPay ID verification process by accepting the Onfido privacy statement and Terms of Service, submitting any supported documents, taking a selfie, and confirming the submitted information.
After completing the BitPay ID verification process, there may be a short delay before a success confirmation page is displayed. Clicking Continue will redirect you to the BitPay Dashboard.
