Insufficient Funds Error
An insufficient funds error in the BitPay app means that you do not have enough confirmed wallet inputs to pay the miner fee and send the desired amount.
If you receive cryptocurrency that has not yet been confirmed, you will need to wait until the input transactions get confirmed to use it. Alternatively, you could purchase additional cryptocurrency from a BitPay Partner.
Cost of Miner Fee Factors
- The quantity of wallet inputs that need to be verified. More wallet inputs in a transaction equal a higher fee. You can see your inputs by reviewing your wallet addresses.
- How much congestion the network is currently experiencing. A high mempool size indicates more network traffic, which will result in a longer average confirmation time and higher fees. (BitPay has no control over network congestion.)
Insufficient Gas Error
Insufficient gas error means you don't have enough gas to send the transaction. Gas is a transaction fee paid on a blockchain network. Gas fees cannot be paid with the token balance. Gas is required to be at the same address as the tokens.
If your BitPay Wallet tokens are on the Ethereum network or layer 2 networks (Arbitrum, Base, Optimism), you'll need Ethereum (ETH) to send or swap the tokens.
If your BitPay Wallet tokens are on the Polygon network, you'll need POL (formerly MATIC) to send or swap the tokens.
Buying Cryptocurrency
Gas or additional cryptocurrency can be purchased using the BitPay app on iOS or Android, the BitPay website, or a cryptocurrency exchange of your choice.
