Using the BitPay app on Android

To download/update and get access ot the latest features on the BitPay app, you'll need to be using Android 11 or higher. This is not only a requirement on the Google Play Store but also for the security of your device and cryptocurrency stored within the app.

BitPay Support does not provide assistance for users experiencing bugs using an old version of the app.

There are many reasons to use the latest operating system on your Android device including:

• Security: Updates provide security patches to protect your device from data breaches, ransomware, and spyware.
• Bugs: Updates fix bugs and security holes.
• Features: Updates include new features and compatibility upgrades that improve your user experience.
• Performance: Updates can improve your phone's performance and functionality.

What do I do if I have the BitPay app on Android 10 or below?

• If possible, update your device operating system to Android 11 or higher.
• Update your device to a version using Android 11 or higher.
• Download the BitPay app on another operating system.

If updating to another device, please make sure you've backed up your wallet before uninstalling or migrating the BitPay app.

To back up the wallet on your device:

1. Open your BitPay app
2. Select the Gear icon
3. Scroll down to Crypto Wallets & Keys, and select your wallet key
4. Select Backup
5. Write down the 12-word recovery phrase and secure it in a safe place. We do not recommend emailing it to yourself.
