BitPay Wallet encrypted passwords are designed for local device security. The password is created and stored only on your device. BitPay does not manage or have the ability to reset wallet encrypted passwords. If you have lost your wallet's encrypted password, you can access your wallet using your 12-word recovery phrase. Without your recovery phrase, we suggest trying any passwords you can remember.
Clearing BitPay Wallet Encrypted Password using your Recovery Phrase
- Open the BitPay app and select your wallet key
- Select the Gear icon in the top right
- Scroll down and select Clear Encrypted Password, then select the Continue button
- Enter your 12-word recovery phrase (single space between words, no capital letters or punctuation)
- Select Import Wallet
If the encrypted password is not cleared, a new wallet appears, or you receive an error, the recovery phrase used does not match the wallet.
Alternatively, you can import your BitPay Wallet 12-word recovery phrase to a new device where an encrypted password has not been set.
