The BitPay app, by default and to protect your privacy, automatically generates a new address for your wallet after using a Bitcoin address (same for Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin, or Dogecoin). For more details, see Why does my BitPay wallet’s address keep changing?
A single Bitcoin address is sometimes used for simplicity, easy tracking, or as a public donation address. While using a new address per transaction is better for privacy and security, a single address acts as a static "account number," ideal for shared, repeated, or small public transactions. Single addresses are harder to manage wallet inputs and outputs, potentially increasing future fees.
Creating a Bitcoin Wallet using a Single Address
- Open the BitPay app and select your wallet key or create one
- Select + Add Wallet
- Select UTXO Wallet
- Select Bitcoin, then Add Wallet
- Show Advanced Option, then Single Address and Add Wallet
