The BitPay Wallet is a self-custody wallet, meaning users have complete control over their cryptocurrency without relying on a custodial service like an exchange.
Access to self-custody cryptocurrency is secured using a 12-word recovery phrase (also known as a wallet key or seed phrase). It is crucial to keep your recovery phrase in a secure location and never share it.
BitPay Wallets do not use account logins. Cryptocurrency cannot be accessed using a bitpay.com account with an email and password.
Importing Recovery Phrase using the BitPay app
1. Open the BitPay app and select the + icon, or import wallet equivalent
2. Select Import Key
3. Enter your recovery phrase and then select Import Wallet
