Note: The refund process is the same for underpayments and overpayments. An underpayment was used as example for the screenshots in this support article.
In case of an underpayment or an overpayment, the BitPay invoice page immediately lets you request a refund.
If you closed the corresponding tab in your web browser, an email notification is also sent so you can always request the refund later.
Note: Refund email links expire within 3 days, so please claim your refund within 3 days of receiving your email.
To collect the refund, you will be required to sign in with a BitPay Personal account (or sign up if you don't have one yet).
Only basic information (email and password) are necessary to create a personal account unless the refund amount is above $1000 USD equivalent, in which case you will need to go through a verification process as explained in this support article.
Once logged in, you will be redirected to the following page where you can submit a refund address.
Once you click on the Continue button, you will invited to validate the refund address provided via a confirmation link sent to your email address.
Once you click on the Confirm Refund Address button, you will be redirected to the following page which indicates the refund will be processed with 1-2 business days.
BitPay also notifies you of the pending refund request via email.
Once the refund is executed and the cryptocurrency amount returned to your wallet, a final email notification is sent by BitPay, which contains a link to the refund transaction on the corresponding blockchain.
