What are XRP Destination Tags?

Ripple (XRP) destination tags are a specific identifier attached to an XRP transaction. The tags are used to identify the recipient when sending XRP to an exchange or other service that uses a shared address.

• Sending XRP to a BitPay Wallet, a destination tag is not required.
• Paying the BitPay Invoice with Payment Protocol, no tag will be required.
• Sending XRP from a BitPay Wallet to an exchange or shared address, a destination tag is required.
