Ripple (XRP) destination tags are a feature of the XRP network that allows a specific identifier to be attached to a transaction. This is often used to distinguish individuals or particular payments. When sending in XRP to exchanges, it is necessary to add your destination tag to ensure the deposit is matched to your account. When sending funds to an XRP exchange address, make sure you use the destination tag provided by the exchange.
BitPay wallets and personal wallets in general do not use tags. If you send funds to an individual wallet, you likely do not need to include a destination tag. However, it is still important to check first before sending any funds.
If someone wants to send funds to your BitPay wallet, they do not need to enter a destination tag. In case they are required by the sending platform to enter a destination tag, they can enter anything, such as “123456” for example.
BitPay invoices
If you are paying the BitPay invoice with Payment Protocol, no tag will be required.
